” The internet is ‘powered’ by humans ”
Picking a domain name - if you’re doing it for the first time - will seem like a very easy task. This is probably because you’ve already thought up a really nice URL, and you’re in a hurry to get it registered on your new web hosting account.
If you just did a simple search for the number of available websites on the internet, you would discover that there are probably over a hundred million websites. So think again.
Even though the stats may seem daunting , it doesn’t mean that you still can’t get a good domain name, you’ll just have to brainstorm a bit with the idea you already have and brace up for a few “the domain name …… has already been registered”. I register domain names every once in a while so I’m definite you’ll get one that suits you ( and if you can’t i’m willing to do the brainstorming with you and get you some possible names for free ).
Whentrying to pick a good domain name, you will be tempted to make it more complicated with each try. Somehow it’ll seem like all the simple straight forward domain names have been taken. If you keep this up you’ll definitely find an unregistered domain, the problem is ‘ will your customers/clients be able to find it? ‘ , ‘whats the probability they’ll remember it when they want to return?’ .
Most times a little playing around with the keywords and the major topical theme of your site will give you something really good. A lot of my clients are surprised at how a little change here and there to the originial name can throw up an equally catchy and still available domain.
It may take a longer while , but keep at it and you’re likely to come up with something that is both representative of the content of your site as well as simple.
If you feel you’ve done all the permutations and you still can’t come up with something, I’ll share a little secret. Take a look at google.com, yahoo.com etc these words either didn’t exist or were little known less than 2 decades ago. So if you’re sure you’re willing to put in that extra effort to come up with great content and services for your site ( or if you’re willing to hang in here and keep learning more great stuff for your e-biz), then you can go ahead and come up with your own mixture of vowels and consonants, be sure to keep it under 6 letters ( no one’ll remember menukijorilu.com ). As a matter of fact a simple, short, unique name will go a long way in distinguishing you from the pack.
